Chris Gayle set to return from injury

West Indies opener and explosive batsman Chris Gayle will return from injury in the T20I series against England at Barbados, starting Sunday.
Gayle missed the ODI leg of the series due to soreness in his hip, and his presence was deeply felt as the Windies lost the series 1-2. Gayle will now take guard at the Kensington Oval, where the first Twenty20 International will be played.

West Indies: D Sammy (Captain), S Badree, DJ Bravo, J Charles, S Cottrell, A Fletcher, C Gayle, S Narine, D Ramdin (wkt), R Rampaul, A Russell, M Samuels, K Santokie, L Simmons, DR Smith.

About

Virat Kohli is one of India’s leading batsmen, if he keeps up his consistency a place in the hall of all time greats is his for the taking. Kohli first caught notice as skipper of India’s U-19 World Cup winning team in 2008. Royal Challengers Bangalore backed Kohli early; he was the team’s first pick in the draft for the U-19 players pool before the inaugural IPL in 2008. In 2011 when all franchises saw a major shuffle, he was the only player retained by RCB. Virat made his debut for India soon after the 2008 IPL but found it hard to thrive at the international level. Undeterred, he honed his technique playing for Delhi in the Ranji Trophy and soon was leading the team successfully, earning himself a recall to the Indian ODI team. His superb form since 2010 has seen him finish as the third highest run scorer in ODIs during the 2010-11 season and the highest run scorer in 2011-12. Kohli has sealed his reputation as one of the best chasers in the limited overs format of the game. Currently ranked at no 3 in ICC ODI rankings, and no 8 in the ICC T20 rankings, Virat has established himself as an important member of the Indian national side across all formats. With 185 runs in the 2012 ICC World Twenty20, he was the lone Indian to be featured in the the World Twenty20 Men’s XI team. He won the International Cricketer of the Year award at the CEAT 2011-12 Cricket Awards and received the Polly Umrigar Trophy for being India’s top cricketer in 2011-12. His electric knock of 133* against Sri Lanka during the CB Series was voted the best century of 2012 in the ESPN Cricinfo Awards. RCB’s most capped player and highest run scorer with 1639 runs in 77 matches, Kohli was named captain in the lead up to IPL 6, having led RCB admirably during the second half of IPL 2012. Coach Ray Jennings has always been a believer in him and is certain that this promotion augurs well for Kohli’s potential and ambitions even in international cricket. RCB vs. DD, Feroze Shah Kotla, 2011 In a roller coaster chase, Virat Kohli's gritty half century helped the team get over the line at the very end. Walking in to the middle in the very first over despite being the no.3 batsman, he played an enterprising knock and stuck around long enough to set up their win.

About

Chris Gayle’s first three years in the IPL playing for Kolkata Knight Riders yielded surprisingly little. Ever since he joined RCB some way through the 2011 season he has more than made up for it, smashing IPL and T20 records. The West Indian topped the run charts in 2011, topped the sixes list, hitting almost more than the next three guys in the list put together, became the first man to hit two tons in one edition of the IPL and hit a third one in 2012, the season in which he became the first man to hit over 700 runs in an edition of the IPL. Gayle is not just a T20 operator, although he is the man who hit the first international ton in T20Is, in the first match of the first ever ICC World Twenty20. He has two triple centuries to his name, only the third man besides Don Bradman and Virender Sehwag to have achieved the feat. In his 19 month hiatus from West Indies cricket, Gayle played T20 in India, Zimbabwe, Australia, Bangladesh and would’ve added South Africa to the list if not for an injury. But on his return to Test cricket after the break, Gayle smashed 150 and 64 against New Zealand to settle questions on his temperament. Those were followed up with a couple of important batting and Gangnam Style dancing performances in WI’s victorious 2012 World Twenty20. The batting highlight was his 75* to dismantle Australia in the semifinals and he entertained the world with his unbridled joyous dancing after WI won the final. He suffered a major dip in his form after becoming the first man to hit the first ball of a Test for a six in Bangladesh indicated form in a cameo in the Bangladesh Premier League, smashing 114 off 51 balls to take Dhaka Gladiators through to the final. When he bats, the fielders on the ground are reduced to being spectators and the spectators in the stands become fielders. RCB vs KKR, Kolkata, 2011: Chris Gayle went unsigned at the IPL auction in 2011 but got his chance when RCB signed him as a replacement for Dirk Nannes. Gayle scored a century against his former team fresh off the plane from the Caribbean and turned around the fortunes of RCB in the season. RCB vs PWI, Bangalore, 2012: Bangalore were in a tight spot with Gayle’s top order batting partners gone and a steep chase quickly spiralling out of control. Chris Gayle disagreed, hitting 5 sixes consecutive sixes in 5 balls off Pune’s best spinner, Rahul Sharma and bringing RCB

Ramesh Mane

Ramesh Mane

Acupressure Masseur

'Kaka', as he's fondly known in the Indian cricketing fraternity, was an erstwhile social worker who had studied healing techniques and got involved with the sport after an accidental opportunity to treat a cricketer with a severe muscle pull. He joined the Indian cricket team in the 2004/05 season and has been with them ever since.

His primary objective at RCB is to ensure that all the players going into a match are suitably rested and relaxed, physically and mentally. His methods to bring about the change include: massages, meditation, acupuncture and pranic healing.

A father figure to most, his delightful collection of old Hindi music is usually the default stereo playing when the team travels. Oh, and he does one more thing which nobody else can. Cook 'ghar ka khaana' for a player-in-need. Kudos.

Strength and Conditioning Coach

Widely lauded as the best trainer in the country, S Basu is the man who sets the Royal Challengers Bangalore apart with their athletic prowess and agility on the field.

He is the man behind the muscle of Gaylestorms, the quick feet of Kohli, the strength of Zaheer and the sublime fielding of AB de Villiers.

Not surprising, considering his past as a trainer at the National Cricket Academy and as a sprinter who represented India at the Asian Junior Championship in Tokyo in 1987. With a best time of 10.6 seconds for 100 metres and 21.5 for 200 metres, he is the man to go to when it's about working on strength, endurance, reflexes and agility.
